Jonathan will provide an overview of Utah’s cloud seeding program, which enhances winter snowpack to support the state’s water supply. It covers the science behind cloud seeding, including the use of silver iodide to stimulate precipitation, and explains how Utah’s program is operated through a mix of ground-based and aerial systems. The presentation highlights recent investments, partnerships with local water districts and other states, and the importance of data collection and evaluation. It also addresses the environmental oversight in place and outlines ongoing efforts to improve the program’s effectiveness through research and technology.

About the Speaker:

Jonathan Jennings is a meteorologist and the Cloud Seeding Coordinator for the state of Utah. He has over a decade of experience operating and managing weather modification programs in Texas and now oversees operations, research, and policy in Utah. Jonathan also previously served as the President of the Weather Modification Association.
