NISAR Snow Product Development

Full Description:

Save the date for an upcoming workshop focused on the future of spaceborne snow observations.

Workshop Details
• When: July 8–9, 2026
• Where: University of Utah, Salt Lake City (Hybrid options will be available)
• Goal: Shaping the future of next-generation Spaceborne Snow Products

Overview
With the release of the first NISAR sample products, we are at a pivotal moment for advancing snow science and water resource applications. Building on lessons from NASA SnowEx and UAVSAR, this workshop aims to define a Level-3 Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) product that meets the rigorous needs of both the research and operational communities.

Why Your Voice Matters
We are seeking direct input from water managers, decision-makers, and researchers across a variety of sectors, including:
• Energy & Agriculture: Hydropower forecasting and irrigation planning.
• Water Security: Drought monitoring, reservoir operations, and groundwater management.
• Public Safety: Streamflow prediction and flood risk assessment.

Workshop Focus
We need your expertise to identify practitioner and researcher needs, with a specific focus on operations and applications, including:
• Current snow community products and their utilization.
• Gaps in accuracy, spatial/temporal resolution, and coverage.
• How NISAR observations can help address these critical gaps.
Our ultimate goal is to translate these discussions into actionable guidance for NISAR Snow Product Development.
