Treasure Valley Water Atlas
About
The Treasure Valley Water Atlas (TVWA) is a resource for decision-makers, educators and water-users who care and wish to know more about water in the Treasure Valley. You can explore the source of our water, its history, water law, water delivery, water use, and the future of water here. These narratives were created to help our communities answer important questions and learn more about water in the Treasure Valley.
The TVWA Team
Many thanks to the stakeholders then and now who answered our questions, reviewed our writing, and are working daily to support water management in the Treasure Valley! The Treasure Valley Water Atlas (TVWA) is a living digital resource that has undergone its first major revision since it was launched in 2018.
Origin of TVWA
The original Treasure Valley Water Atlas (TVWA) was created by a team of Boise State University students and faculty through the Idaho EPSCoR MILES Project from 2016-2018 (NSF Award No. IIA-1301792). The original six narratives were: What is the source of our water? How does water law work? How is our water delivered? The refill issue case study. How do we use water? & What does the future hold?
This team was led by Jen Schneider, Jillian Moroney, and Shawn Benner. Team members included: Christopher Torres, Ana Costa, Curtis Crandall, Jodi Brandt, Kendra Kaiser, Jenna Narducci, Laura McSherry, David Pinkerton, and Angel Sanabria.
Updates
The narratives were updated based on the results of community interviews conducted collaboratively by University of Idaho, Boise State University, and the Internet of Water from 2024 to 2025 with support from the NSF Convergence Accelerator (Award #234437) and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality Source Water Protection Grant Fund 5724. These updates were led by Kendra Kaiser (IWRRI), Christa Howarth (U of I Extension), and Carli Beisel (BSU). Team members included: Sophia Borgias (BSU), Lee Parton (BSU), Ru Woods (BSU), Faith Sternlieb (Internet of Water), and Jim Ekins (U of I Extension).
BSU’s Project SCIENTIA team translated three narratives into Spanish, supported by NSF Convergence Accelerator (Award #234437). This process was led by Carolina Viera & Roxana Winston. Team members included: Zaudi Guzman, Janet Gordillo, Joselyn Gutierrez, Mariah Smith, Eca Elelwa, and Gisell Rodriguez.
The graphics, maps, and some photos featured in the TVWA are available for community use upon request. Please contact Christa Howarth (chowarth@uidaho.edu) for high resolution copies, questions or references.
